Privacy policy
Icarus Recipes is a static reference site: no accounts, no sign-ups and no cookies of our own. This page explains the little that is processed, and how to control the ads.
The short version
- No accounts, no newsletter, no comments. We never sell data.
- We set no cookies of our own and put no personal data in URLs.
- Analytics are cookieless and only show us totals (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights).
- Your preferences (theme, rate unit, recent searches) stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
- Ads are served by Google, which may use cookies. In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland Google asks for your consent first; in US states with privacy laws you can opt out.
Who is responsible
Icarus Recipes is an unofficial fan site for ICARUS, run by an individual based in Iceland, in the European Economic Area. The GDPR applies, and the operator is the controller for the processing described here. Questions about this policy or your data: the contact address on our About page (coming soon).
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web server, Vercel processes your IP address, browser type, the address requested and the time, to deliver pages and protect the site against abuse (our legitimate interest in running a secure site). These logs are kept briefly and handled under Vercel's privacy policy; we do not combine them with anything else.
Search runs in your browser on a downloaded index. If you open a search link, the search words are part of that address like any other URL.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to count page views and measure how fast pages load. They set no cookies, store nothing on your device and do not follow you across sites; Vercel tells visits apart with a short-lived value derived from the request, which is discarded within a day. We only see aggregate numbers (which pages are popular, which countries visitors come from, how fast pages load). Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site useful and fast.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
Ads are provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technology to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and prevent fraud, and, where you allow it, to personalise them. Google is responsible for that data: see how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
- EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland: Google's consent message (a consent platform certified under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) asks before any advertising cookies are used, with the choices to consent, not consent or manage options. Until you choose, ad storage, ad personalisation and analytics storage are off (Google Consent Mode, default “denied”). Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Elsewhere: ads may be personalised by default. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we request non-personalised ads only. In US states with privacy laws you can opt out (see US state privacy rights).
- We place every ad by hand: no pop-ups, full-screen ads or automatic ad placement, and never inside tools, search or dialogs. More in Why ads?
US state privacy rights
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you can opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information for targeted advertising. We don't sell personal information for money, but letting Google use cookies to personalise ads can count as selling or sharing under these laws, so you can switch it off:
- Use the footer link, which reads “Do not sell or share my personal information” for visitors in those states who haven't opted out yet. It opens Google's confirmation dialog; once you confirm, Google stops personalising ads for you on this site. The choice is saved in this browser, so repeat it in other browsers or after clearing site data.
- Turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser also works: we then request non-personalised ads only.
- If the footer shows “Your privacy choices” instead, no US state law applies where you are, you have already opted out, or your browser blocks Google's ad script (then no ad data reaches Google from this site).
You also have the right to know, correct and delete personal data (see Your rights), and we will never treat you differently for using them.
Stored in your browser
To remember your settings we use your browser's local storage, not cookies: your theme (dark or light), the rate unit (per minute, per second or per craft) and your recent searches. If you close the small ad bar on a phone, a note in session storage keeps it closed until you close the tab. This never leaves your device; clear it any time in your browser's site settings. It is strictly needed for the features you use, so it needs no consent.
Your choices
- Change or withdraw ad consent (EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland): use “Your privacy choices” in the footer to reopen Google's consent message.
- Opt out of sale or sharing (US states): use the footer link or turn on Global Privacy Control; see US state privacy rights.
- Ad personalisation anywhere: manage it in My Ad Center, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser.
- Block cookies or ads: your browser settings and content blockers work fine here; every page still loads.
Your rights
Under the GDPR (and laws like the UK GDPR and US state privacy laws) you can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, restrict or object to its processing, take it with you, and withdraw consent at any time. We hold no personal data about you beyond the short-lived hosting logs above; for advertising data, Google is the controller. Contact the contact address on our About page (coming soon) and we will help within a month.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Iceland, Persónuvernd, or the authority where you live or work.
Children and changes
The site is not aimed at children under 13 (16 in some EU countries) and does not knowingly collect their data. If this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top.
